Lee Stevens hasn't added a story.
Bogey is a handsome 11 year old boy that was found wandering around all alone in a cane field in Louisiana. Thankfully he ended up at a shelter that Harlee's Angels loves to work with so we were able to get him out right away. The minute his foster picked him up, she called and said he is bad. A couple of calls later, this litte guy was on his way to the vet for a thorough exam.
Immediately apparent are his eye issues. His right eye has an old ulcer on it that it horrible. This has compromised his sight of course and the left eye, though no ulcer is present, has very limited vision. At this time he is getting eye ointment and antibiotic drops. We are hoping this helps but it does not look good and he most likely will lose the right eye at the very least. At the vet office he was trying to check out the place but the poor little guy kept running into the wall. :-(
In addition to his eye problems he has some serious skin issues. A skin scraping shows he has mites and an underlying skin infection of some sort that is nasty. He is on strong antibiotics and will be getting medicated baths (no mange present). If you look at him closely you can see the skin on his back legs is black. Obviously this condition has been around for some time.
Bogey also has some mobility issues. He appeared to limp on his right front leg, but after xrays, the vet thinks it is musculoskeletal. There is some sort of ridge on his back that is most likely causing him to limp or have limited movement in his back legs and of course there is a lot of arthritis. Thankfully the vet gave him a shot of adequan which I have personally seen work miracles in dogs with mobility issues.
The only spot of good news out of this is his heart worm and fecal tests came back negative..thank goodness and he was already neutered.
He is currently on 5 medications and returns Friday for a re-check and further evaluation of his eyes and skin. He cannot be vaccinated until he is stabilized.
This little old man has been neglected, but we are determined to make his golden years as comfortable as possible.
We have already hit $465 with emergency care that we had not budgeted for and the bills will keep climbing with follow up care and the routine (monthly) adequan injections.
We would much appreciate anything you can donate to this litte man's care. No amount is too small (or too big of course).
If you prefer to donate to his care directly please contact Pine Hills Veterinary Hospital 9063 Cypress St West Monroe, LA 71291 (318) 397-9000 and speak with Mary or Jennifer. Please tell them your donation is for Bogey (mention that Tori Looney is his foster mom and brings him in).
As always, thank you in advance for caring about this little senior and your continued support.
