My name is Gail Shoaf. This past Easter, I was undergoing heart surgery. This was my 2nd heart attack within 5 days. The surgeons did not feel that I would survive, so the doctor told my husband to call our family. The heart surgeons told my husband my prognosis was not good, and if I lived, I would probably require a heart transplant. They removed blood vessels from my leg and upper arm and performed a triple bypass. They tried inserting stents but failed. My heart blood vessels were deteriorating preventing the stents from holding. The surgeons remarked they had never encountered a case like that. They didn’t know why my blood vessels were basically falling apart. After many prayers from friends and family, I surprised everyone. My vital signs greatly improved but further complications required transferring me to another hospital. After a two-week stay, I was allowed to go home. With all things considered, I’m doing pretty well. Prayer works. Now the bad news. My husband had been laid off from work and he was attending school. As long as he was in school, we had health insurance. He had just completed his schooling a few weeks before and our health insurance expired. Therefore, we don't have any health insurance. We applied for help through the hospital. Even with the discounts they provided, we still owe over $260,000. I hadn’t worked for quite some time. My mother-in-law had an accident and was no longer able to live alone. I had made a promise to her many years ago that I would care for her when she got old. I lived up to my promise. My husband and I cared for her in our home for five years before she passed. Now I’m unable to work and we are just getting by on my husbands social security.
My husband and I have been so worried about all these high doctor and hospital bills. One day, I saw FundRazr. I am hoping this will be an answer to my prayers.
