Athyna was adopted to our home and arrived on May 29th, 2013. On May 30th, 2013 we were told that Athyna had deadly low blood cell counts and would need intervention. She was given iron and we were to bring her back in first thing in the morning. We did so, to be told that she was even worse, and that the source was very likely an excessive amount of parasites living in and on her body. We were told to take her to the emergency vet hospital in Missouri.

Within an hour of her arrival at the vet hospital we were told that Athyna would be taken in for several tests including a doggy MRI and tons of stat bloodwork. All of her tissue was white, she looked like, as my daughter said "A cow", no pink visible any where on her face or in her mouth.

We were sent home after they started her blood transfusion. Within an hour I had a call saying they needed to rush her to emergency surgery, but they had a major problem, what blood cells she had, contained no hemoglobin, oh she had "pretend" blood cells he said, but they were mishappen and malformed. We were informed she may not make it to or through surgery but they would try.

She had an intussusception, extensive liver damage with big giant diagnosis words, low kidney levels, internal bleeding, and a parasite load that astonished every vet who came in contact with her. She also had a chronic eurachus with a fused bladder, and a hernia. Her surgery took nearly 3 hours.

With all of that taken care of we were still not given the clear, her liver just was not working, she was put on a ridiculous amount of medications and supplements and we were told she had a small chance of kidney failure. About two weeks ago she started peeing brown. They did a sonogram and found that she had a cyst in her kidney. Thursday July 11th, we were told that she was in kidney failure.

Her care and treatment have to this point cost over $10,000. Her estimate future treatment with the kidney failure is thousands more.

I am a single mother of 3, who is just recovering from Renal Cell Carcinoma myself. I have run out of funds to save her on my own, and still have any chance of supporting my three children.

Athyna and I need your help, so she has a chance to grow up and be the strong beautiful dog she was meant to be!
