As many of you are aware, on the 12th July I am participating in a charity horse race at Ascot. The race forms part of The Property Race Day www.thepropertyraceday.co.uk which see’s professionals from all over the property industry come together and enjoy a day’s racing. This is the first year that the committee have chosen to host a charity race, and I have been very lucky in being selected to be one of the jockeys.

Having been a keen horse rider all of my life, naturally I jumped at the chance to take part. However, it wasn't until a few months down the line until I really comprehended what I am letting myself in for. Riding an actual racehorse, at ASCOT in front of 100's of people! Well there's not backing out now!

The race itself will be the final race of the day. There will be 12 jockeys, all of whom must be working in the property profession. The race is a straight mile, started by flag. All of the horses must be registered with the British Horseracing Association and currently in training under the Rules of Racing in the care of a Licensed trainer. Yes effectively I have asked someone if I can ‘borrow’ their racehorse for the day.

As part of the process, I have travelled to the British Racing School in Newmarket, where my riding and fitness were assessed. Fortunatley my riding skills were deemed acceptable, however my fitness levels were somewhat dubious! Apparently I am 50% fit when compared to a top jockey - well it could have been worse!

With the help from my colleague David, I have been fortunate to find an owner willing to let me use their horse. 'Micquus' also know as Jet (for Jet black, despite being dark bay), is 4 years old and he is very handsome (see photo). Of course I can't comment on speed, although having taken him up the gallops a few times, I've got a good feeling we could be in with a chance of a win! Let's hope Jet by name, Jet by nature.....

As well as finding a horse for the race, I also need to raise £5,000 which will go towards the Property Race Day charities, which include Land Aid, Hope and Homes, Well Child and Wherever The Need. I am about half way to my target, through organising a date night in Battersea (being the only sober one in attendance, rest assured there was plenty of succesful matches!) and my fantastic colleagues at C&W organised a race night to raise some further funds.

So here we are. I am asking if you can give as much or as little as you can to help me achieve this target. For those who are free on the 12th July, the day is open for anyone to attend and although I will probably spend most of the day as a nervous wreck, I would really love to see some friendly faces too!

Any donation, big or small will be hugely appreciated.
