Two weeks ago, Second Chance Dog and Puppy Rescue in Luverne, AL was forced to shut down. City officials accused us of running a business out of our home without a business license due to our $40 adoption fee. We have since leased a building that is in a commercially zoned area. But, we have a problem- the building we are leasing has not been set up for dogs. We are going to have to put up all the kennels and nessary fencing to be able to keep our rescues there. We called and checked pricing in our area, and it will cost about $800 for each kennel. We are trying to put up 20 kennels, which will total $16,000.

We need your help! My husband and I run Secod Chance out of our pockets. We pay for all vet care and expenses with our incomes. Sixteen thousand dollars is a huge sum of money when it is accompanied by the costs of caring for 7 adult dogs, 2 mother dogs with 12 pups, and 10 puppies that are currently in our care. It would take us quite a whole to pay for the kennels going up. Since Crenshaw County (where Luverne is located) has no working shelter or rescue besides us, it is really important that we get operational as soon as possible. I am having to turn away 10-30 people a day needing us to take their pet or stray. It is truly heartwrenching knowing that most of these dogs will end up killed or dropped off on the side of the road because the people have no where to take them. Please help us help them! If it is only a couple of dollars, it helps! No amount is too small!

If you prefer to donate by check or money order, it can be mailed to 595 South Forest Avenue, Luverne, AL 36049. I will be happy to mail you receipts for your donation as well as receipts for what it was spent on (if you request this).

You can also see all of our current, as well as past rescues on our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/secondchance.d.rescue

I am attaching a photo of our new building. It needs a lot of work to become operational, but we are more than willing to put in our time and money to save the wonderful dogs and puppies of Crenshaw County and surrounding areas.
