Here is your chance to contribute to a cause that is tangible and immediate. Help bridge the financial gap for Harrison to increase the therapy that he needs. This therapy will aid him in becoming the functional member of society that he is capable of. His need is immediate: What you donate today will help him as soon as tomorrow. Help us reach our goal of $26,000 to pay for the additional therapy and education for one full year. http://www.facebook.com/#!/HarrisonTodayAndTomorrow Harrison’s health issues began at birth. Harrison has been diagnosed with autism and moderate mental retardation with significant speech impairment. As a result of his condition, Harrison has many developmental delays as it relates to fine motor skills, communication skills and his ability to learn. Harrison’s recommended treatment plan is a total of 25-35 intervention hours. We are hopeful Harrison will learn to function productively in society but professionals tell us that Harrison will likely never be able to function completely on his own in society. Harrison is now 7 years old and still unable to communicate verbally but the therapy he has been receiving is greatly improving his abilities to communicate and learn. He has shown significant improvement since he started receiving ABA therapy in the early summer of 2011. As you can imagine the cost to provide this care is costly. Unfortunately, one component of Harrison’s care, ABA Therapy, is currently not covered under the insurance plan. Harrison’s current therapy amounts to approximately $24,000 per year and includes only 9 hours a week of ABA therapy. ABA Therapy is one of the most important components of Harrison’s care and according to the doctors at Texas Children’s Hospital and his pediatrician these therapies are medically necessary. If we were to pay for the amount of ABA therapy recommended by our health care team, we would have estimated annual costs of $35,000 to $50,000. This is a testimonial from one of Harrison’s therapists; more will be added to his Facebook page: “It is so nice to be greeted by Harrison’s attentive smile, warm eyes, and friendly wave! Harrison’s gains have been great but there is still so much for him to work on. I hope to see him one day playing appropriately with his peers and communicating effectively with others. Behind Harrison beautiful eyes, he has a lot to share and a lot that he wants to say and Applied Behavior Analysis can help teach this little boy exactly how to do that!”
