Station Theater - Live Improv & Sketch Comedy hasn't added a story.

SUPPORT THE NEXT CHAPTER OF STATION THEATER!
HOUSTON’S HOME FOR COMEDY ARTS, CONNECTION, AND CREATIVITY

For more than a decade, Station Theater has been Houston’s home for long form improv and sketch comedy. From our scrappy beginnings on Houston Avenue to our current space at Sawyer Yards in Arts District Houston, we’ve welcomed thousands of students, performers, and audience members to laugh, learn, and grow through the power of comedy.

NOW, IT’S TIME FOR OUR NEXT CHAPTER AND WE NEED YOUR HELP TO BUILD IT.

WHAT WE DO

Since 2012, Station Theater has empowered people from all walks of life to embrace bold self-expression, creative risk-taking, and collaborative joy. Our training programs include long form improv (Levels 1–5), sketch comedy writing, production, and directing. Whether you're stepping onstage for the first time, taking a class to improve public speaking, or just looking to laugh and make new friends, Station is a space for community and courage.

Each week, we bring to life:

  • Live Improv & Sketch Comedy Shows: Original unscripted improv performances and written sketch comedy from local and touring talent

  • Adult Improv & Sketch Comedy Classes: From Level 1 long form improv to advanced formats, plus sketch writing, production, and directing

  • Applied Improv Training & Team-Building: Leadership development and communication workshops for Houston-area businesses and organizations

  • Custom Events & Collaborations: Emcees, personalized sketch performances, and guest-inspired improv shows for private groups and community partners
Cutting Room Floor Improv Show with Crowd
  • Intro to Improv Classes: A weekly, no-pressure workshop that’s introduced thousands to improv since 2013; with over 600 free classes and counting

  • Diversity & Equity Programming: Scholarships, fellowships, a Black Improv Alliance partnership, and community-driven improv jams that serve as open practices for developing skills; including our Diversity Jam, Ma’am Jam, Queer Jam, and Retro Jam (ages 40+)

WHAT WE'VE BUILT TOGETHER

Improv Class Show

With your support, Station Theater has become a vital part of Houston’s creative landscape. Together, we have:

  • Hosted thousands of improv and sketch comedy events, shows, and classes

  • Graduated almost 500 students through our training program

  • Created pathways to participation for anyone interested in comedy arts, regardless of financial circumstances

  • Stayed strong through floods, freezes, and a pandemic, thanks to the unwavering support of our performers, students, and fans
  • Helped businesses build stronger, more engaged teams through Applied Improv Training & Team Building, serving over 100 Houston-area organizations like Dow Chemical, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Houston Food Bank, Harris County Department of Education, Insperity, Houston Methodist, and the Houston Rockets

OUR STORY: FROM SETBACKS TO COMEBACK

In March 2020, we shut our doors due to COVID, like so many others. The pandemic forced the cancellation of classes, shows, and events. Overnight, we lost 100% of our income.

Then what followed was two break-ins (including the theft of computer equipment, toilet paper, cleaning products, and an inflatable alien), cancellations of planned re-openings due to new COVID variants and surges, and, just as we were starting to recover, the sale of our building and the loss of our longtime home in early 2022.

We moved into two separate studio classrooms across different buildings without a theater to call our own. From March through July 2022, we had no stage, no shows, and no central home - just our people, our passion, and a commitment to keep moving forward.

Sketch Comedy - Station Theater

In July 2022, we reopened performances in a temporary venue with no stage, no classroom, and just 40 seats, which was less than half our previous capacity. Still, we found a way to keep the laughter going.

With the support of our community, we kept our mission alive. We built connection in a time of isolation, made space for joy, and created a home for laughter, creativity, and belonging - even when we didn’t have a home of our own.

Now, we’re finally ready for what’s next: A permanent space with room to perform, teach, and grow.

This is the final step in a long journey. We have a new home. Help us cross the finish line.

⭘ ⭘ ⭘

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Emotional Pastries Improv

We now have the opportunity to move into a new permanent home in a creative community space in the 5th Ward Cultural Arts District at 2000 Nance Street. This space unites our theater and classrooms, restores our performance capacity, and allows us to grow.

We’re raising $15,000 to help transform a raw venue into a vibrant creative hub. Your support will go directly toward:

  • Building a welcoming stage and audience space
  • Installing lights, sound, seating, and accessibility features
  • Bringing classrooms and performance under one roof
  • Covering signage, move-in costs, and more
