Ben's Kitchen:
Serving about 250 people each day, at two separate locations, Ben's Kitchen is a safe place for children and families to come on a daily basis, offering a full meal to those in need. While enjoying a warm meal, the community is provided with fellowship, a place to be comfortable while watching the morning news, and a fresh cup of coffee for those headed to work. Many of those served work in the landfill.
The story of Ben's Kitchen is tied to a family and community that suffered great loss, yet took that grief and built something hopeful and inspiring for a community in Tijuana, Mexico.
Ben was a 16 year old, in some ways just like every teen and unlike any other in many other ways. Each year, he went on The Mexico Mission trips that Green Valley Community Church organizes. He was part of a group that went to support a church that served breakfast in "The Canyon". Ben was the kid that would and DID give his own shirt off his back, just because a boy he met liked it. After a tragic car accident, Ben passed away.
But that is not the end of Ben's Story. In fact, it is only the beginning...
His parents, along with his brother, use their talents and resources to continue the work he loved. So do countless others, like Dave, who picked up his life in Placerville, CA and moved to build La Mision Ministries in the dumps of Tijuana.
The concept of helping others is the building block for this mission and fundraiser.
Ben's Kitchen and Ben's Closet help those in need, giving food, clothing, formula, diapers, personal hygiene items, blankets, pillows, tarps, and toys. All basic items that are so often taken for granted in The States. Everything is run by volunteers from the community.

Ben's Kitchen is a non-profit that feeds up to 250 people there every day. Named for a young man who had a heart for the poor, Ben's Kitchen is run by volunteers and is funded by generous donors and folks who do mission trips to Mexico. Since 2020, visits have declined, and so have the donations.
