Bethany Kindergarten Bobcats hasn't added a story.
As we head back into our kindergarten classrooms this fall, we have a chance to reimagine our classrooms and spaces for children at Bethany Elementary. We want to design our classrooms to help children feel successful by providing opportunities to play and explore without limitations. We want to create classrooms with spaces where students can take risks and make messes. We would like to create a “yes” environment, where students can learn that mistakes are an opportunity to try again. These spaces will be student centered, where the teacher becomes the facilitator, provides guidance and partners with children in their learning through play.
When students are offered the opportunity to play, it helps them develop in many ways. Open ended playful inquiry allows students to be creative. They learn new vocabulary as they interact with peers. They learn how to problem solve by working together during play. They can practice concepts like the alphabet and work on number sense while engaged in an activity. Providing play spaces and exploration time is less stressful for our youngest learners. These students have not been in a school environment and we want to make school inviting and less intimidating for them especially post pandemic.
As a kindergarten team we see using these items for playful inquiry and exploration.These items will include:
Art Supplies: $450
Imaginative Play:$ 257.91
Work Spaces:$ 162.12
Alphabet and Number Play: $1,082.04
Total: 1,952.07

Founded in 1988, the Beaverton Education Foundation raises money to provide hands-on innovative academic enrichment and advancement programs & projects that go beyond normal school funding at all Beaverton public schools and is a 501(c)(3) community-based nonprofit organization. BEF mobilizes community resources to fund innovative classroom projects, summer and after-school programs.
In the event that this project does not reach its goal or exceeds its goal, BEF may apply the funds received to another similar project.
