Community Evolution

Community Evolution has an impressive eight-year history of empowering co-operative enterprises to develop, grow and create positive change. During this time, we have partnered with farming communities, native salmon fishers, wine and sugar producers, marketplaces and eco-tourism ventures, here in British Columbia and the wider world.

In 2020 we stepped up our efforts through our COVID-19 Response Plan which is focused on helping community-based enterprises and co-operatives in British Columbia and in the Andean region of South America to protect income, stabilize businesses and coordinate emergency food security initiatives amidst the Covid-19 crisis. 

What we do

Community Evolution provides funding, offers consultation and training workshops, promotes financial best practices, and increases understanding of cooperative business models as tools to increase local empowerment and economic development.  Our technical guidance and organizational support allow communities to strengthen their local economies and food systems and to emerge more resilient, more inclusive, and better placed to meet the challenges of rapidly changing conditions in the future.

Our work with Community Partners

Every community is different, and in their approach to change, development, and decision-making each has been impacted differently by the pandemic. Knowing this, we have retained the services of a highly-skilled technical advisor and program manager to focus on the BC region as a whole, with particular emphasis on indigenous communities, while maintaining our important work in South America. CE is also funding the hiring of local facilitators for each of our community partnerships to provide skilled, on-the-ground coordination and support of cooperative, community-led initiatives that strengthen economic development and local resilience.
