Marley's Mutts Dog Rescue hasn't added a story.
This pint sized paraplegic is Dash. Over the years we have learned that "paraplegic" is only a descriptive term and does NOT, by any means, define our dogs or our people. A set of wheels were donated all the way from Maryland but they are a just a too tall. We are going to need to raise funds to have a personalized one built or perhaps this post will reach folks in a position to donate one. Dash was found inside of a box at a Wal Mart parking lot during a recent heat wave. He was saved by a homeless couple and then transferred to friends of ours.
Dash is a pure bred Dachshund with the classic look, demeanor (and back problems) of a Doxie. We are not sure if he was born this way or underwent trauma, but several slipped discs, severely inflamed shoulders and muscles which are not completely atrophied yet would imply he was dropped or hit or underwent trauma. He has sores on his feet and legs from dragging himself around, which unfortunately is a sign he may have irreversible paralysis. His paralysis will NOT prevent him from leading a very active, happy, competent life, we just have to get a complete picture of his issues in order to game plan properly. This diagnosis isn't holding us or him back from seeking answers and trying to increase his quality of life. Darcel, his foster Mom, has taken him to see renowned chiropractor, Dr. Nelson, several times and he is showing signs of improvement. His feet are not receiving messages from his brain but the muscles in his lower half are showing reflex. He's also scheduled to see an acupuncturist to help relieve some of the tension in his shoulders. Once Dash has his wheels, he is headed to foster with renowned trainer and pack leader, Angela Adan. Angela has a paralyzed Doxie named Ferris who is the perfect role model for Dash. Ferris leads an inspirational, productive, pain free life and, with your help and a little luck, Dash will have a similar outcome. Please donate what you can and share this post thoroughly so we can get this wonderful Weiner-dog some wheels and adequate treatment! We look forward to sharing Dash's journey with you.
