Welcome to our 5th Annual Share The Magic Toy Drive, Inspired
by Barbara Aguirre FundRazr campaign!
This fund raising page was set up for online donations of that
will go towards the purchase of toys for our 2014 Christmas toy drive
campaign.
Our toy drive was inspired by the magic our mom, Barbara
Aguirre, created for us during the holiday seasons throughout our
lives together. After her passing at the start of the holiday season
in 2009, we were devastated. In 2010, Andrea (daughter of Barbara),
came up with the idea to raise toys in honor of the great memories our
mom created for us and in order to help families that had children in
the hospital or that were in shelters during the holidays.
Turning our grief into gratitude for having such a wonderful and
giving woman in our lives, we decided to channel that appreciation
into a call to action to help others in need. We are proud to say our
family and friends rose to the occasion with great enthusiasm that has
had a positive impact for the organizations we donate to.
We donate to Ronald McDonald House of Oak Lawn, the Crisis
Center of South Suburbia, Advocate Children's Hospital, the Village of
Justice Food Pantry (secret Santa program) and new this year, La
Rabida Children's Hospital.
Here is more information as to what we have accomplished with
the help of our generous donors:
Christmas 2010 - Approximately, 250 toys presented to
Hope
Children's Hospital, The Ronald McDonald House of Oak Lawn,
Guardian Angel Community Services in Joliet, and Adopt-A-Family out of
Elk Grove Township.
Christmas 2011 - Over 400 toys presented to Hope
Children's
Hospital, The Ronald McDonald House of Oak Lawn,
Guardian Angel Community Services in Joliet and the Crisis Center of
South Suburbia.
Spring of 2012 - We presented 37 Easter Baskets to
the Crisis Center of South Suburbia for kids ranging from 2 weeks old
to 16 years old.
Christmas 2012 - the event drew even more gifts and
donors than the two events before. Those donations went to the Crisis
Center of South Suburbia, Advocate Child Children’s Hospital
(formerly Hope Children’s Hospital), Ronald McDonald House and Mercy
Home for Boys and Girls. We also “adopted” families that found
themselves in need.
Christmas 2013 - We matched the amount of toys we
raised in 2012 and also managed to raise awareness for the
organizations that we donate to. We had speakers from each of the
organizations and the event kickoff was a success in helping get the
word out there about this effort to help others.
We thank all of our donors for their continued support in
helping us to try and provide toys for as many children as possible!
We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
- Bernie (on behalf of the entire family and especially MOM!)
