Tori Kraven hasn't added a story.
Zebudy Carlyle is a 14 year old young man with Nephrotic Syndrome. He has been fighting this kidney disease for more than 10 years. Nephrotic Syndrome effects the kidneys by not allowing proteins to filter through. It causes extreme swelling from edema, fluid retention, asking other things. This fluid can then become infected, making him extremely sick!
Recently, his parents had to make an unbelievably hard decision about their son's treatment. He has been in and out of local hospitals and UNC Children's Hospital, in Chapel Hill, NC. His treatments have included numerous daily medications, sometimes IV medications and treatments. But this recent relapse has called for extreme measures in order to save his other organs from shutting down. He takes a medication daily that is shutting down parts of both of his kidneys, permanently. This is going cause him to need a kidney transplant.
His family has already incurred enormous cost over the years, not to mention recently, getting him to appointments and back and forth to the hospitals. He has 2 brothers and a sister that need supervision and care, causing his parents to split shifts to have one there with him. Now, there are compatibility tests to be performed to find a donor, which will be costly as well.
An appointment has been made for October 7, at the Children's Hospital in Atlanta, GA, for a second opinion. We are going that a fresh set of eyes and ears will help us find an alternative other than major surgery! But he needs to get there! We are depending on the thoughtfulness and generosity of our community to help us make this happen!
If you can find it in your heart to help this family through this difficult time, any donation, of any kind, would be appreciated. Every little bit helps. Thank you ahead of time for showing this young man and his family, that people DO want to help!
