Hi,

My name is Anne Oxenbury and I have been a leader for nearly 1o years at 1st West Bay Cubs. I am also a Network Leader in Dorchester and West Dorset.

I have been fortunate to be selected to represent the UK at the next World Scout Jamboree in Japan on 2015 as International Service Team (IST) / Japan Planning Team (JPT).

I am no stranger to Jamborees and in fact this will be my second World Scout Jamboree, as I went to the last one in Sweden in 2011 again as IST. Although this one will be more as a challenge as not only am I away for longer but the humidity will be a challenge.I have also attended the Essex International Jamboree in 2012 as a leader and Kernow Jamboree in 2013, where I was a Sub – Camp Leader.

So what can I expect as an IST member at the Jamboree? In a nutshell IST members make the event happen!!! From welcoming guests onsite or running the activities to the not soo glamorous tasks of cleaning the toilets / showers. The list of tasks go on and on and from my last World Scout Jamboree I know the tasks can be hard work as I was on the refuse team, collecting and sorting rubbish and recycling.

So why do I want to go? I LOVE IT!! I enjoy meeting so many people from all over the world and learning about their culture whilst seeing young people mix and enjoy amazing activities. I may only be a small part of making it happen but I get a massive sense of pride from helping to stage such a huge event.

They say a Scout is never the same after attending a World Scout Jamboree and I would have to agree as I came back last time more confident and passed on alot of what I learnt to Beavers / Cubs and Scouts in my area.

I will be giving up 3 weeks of my annual leave to attend and contrary to belief I won’t get paid. In fact I need to raise nearly £3,000 to attend and this will cover my flights, accommodation (a tent), insurance and meals. So this fundraising account has been set up for people / organisations to donate.

They say you get a Jamboree Bug and I definitely have it!!
