Fulton Rescuecoordinator hasn't added a story.
Lauren was tied to a park bench in Piedmont Park Atlanta, GA on
October 19,2013. She was brought into animal control where she lived
in the kennel. In November she had a really bad upper respiratory
infection and was placed on the euthanasia list at the shelter. Lauren
became the rescue and foster coordinators office dog.
Everything started out okay. The first time we became concerned was
after she growled at a volunteer. She was spayed later on that week
and we hoped that would help. Unfortunately, it did not help and she
continued to have more trouble with strangers and unpredictable
behavior. She also became very reactive with other dogs through a
fence, on a leash and she couldn't go back into the same kennel she
was in. We carefully managed all of her interactions and tried thunder
shirts and worked with her.
Lauren is very high energy and
would love agility and be a great working dog. We are sure part of her
issues were not being able to get enough exercise. But with her
behavior she could no longer stay at the shelter. We posted for rescue
or adopter but no one was able to help.
We took her to a
hotel room to spend the night with her mommies from the shelter the
night before her scheduled euthanasia. We let her eat whatever she
wanted and took her for a long hike up Kennesaw mountain the next day.
On the drive back to the shelter we came up with a temporary
alternative. We both knew we weren't ready to give up. Lauren would go
into quarantine boarding for 2 weeks and then enter a live-in training
program. This is the last chance we have to save her life. She will
still need a foster, rescue, or adopter after training.
Her
boarding was just under $200, her live in training is $600 and we have
to supply food costing around $150. We really need help to raise the
funds as she does not have a rescue or adopter to fund this but no one
wants to give up on Lauren. Any donations will help.
