Please consider helping Charlie – a rescued abuse survivor who is diagnosed with severe hydrocephalus - water retention in his brain, which will slowly kill him if not treated. This can be fixed with an expensive operation (at Tufts University Vet School) that creates a shunt from his brain into his belly, draining the water continually, allowing him to live a regular life and recover from much lost brain activity and possibly even regain some eye sight!

CHARLIE'S STORY:

Hello my name is Charlie. I'm a 3 year old 5 pound Yorkie who had a rough start to his life. A little over a year ago my foster mom picked me up from a high-kill shelter in Florida, where I was brought to die by people who did not care about me. I was so dirty and filthy that I had to be sedated and shaved. My paws were infected. My mom believes that I was in a puppy mill all my life. My forever mommy saw my picture on rescue site and fell in love with me. She flew from NH to FL to adopt me and I joined a happy family and made friends with my new Yorkie girlfriend Mia. She loves me even though I act a bit strange. I'm afraid of stairs, doors, curbs, grass and anything I had never knew before, because I used to live in a small cage.

Recently the doctor diagnosed me with severe Hydrocephalus. This means that I have a lot of water in my brain. The doctor says that there is more water than brain tissue! This water is in the center of my brain and putting pressure on my brain tissue by pressing it against my skull. But I'd like to say that I'm still quite charming even with a squished brain!

The doctor also discovered that I am blind because of this, along with many other neurological problems. I am very anxious to say the least. I don't like to be picked up. At all. Or touched. When I do, I fight for my life and bite. But after biting I give kisses and then run away because I don't mean to be bad. The pressure in my brain is confusing me and scaring me. I want to stop being scared and be a happy dog so badly.

TREATMENT:

My mom needs to raise money so that the doctor can take the water out of my brain by inserting a device that constantly drains this liquid into my belly. This is an amazing procedure and I'm thankful that the doctor can help me. My mom is sad because this is a very expensive procedure. It will cost approximately $7,000 including the test, surgery and CT/MRI scans. My mommy has already paid for $2,300 for my doctor on a credit card just for me. She must love me very much…

Message from mommy Ina:

I thank everyone DEARLY who even considers donating to help Charlie. He has so much potential and he is still so young. He has never had a happy life and he deserves SO much to. I can tell he wants to be. He tries. But he just can't get there without the doctor and your help. THANK YOU everyone.
