Kirsten is a kind, generous and determined 38 year old woman who has been battling with the debilitating symptoms of Lyme Disease for at least 14 years, if not a lifetime. The trouble is that up until a year ago, Kirsten has been treated for Multiple Sclerosis. Misdiagnosed with MS at the age of 24, she has endured injections, intra venous treatments and steroids to improve symptoms ranging from blindness, fatigue and walking difficulties causing her to be bedridden for weeks on end. Kirsten's quality of life deteriorated as her symptoms progressed to the point when in 2008 she had to give up the career she loved. She has been unable to work full time ever since. Kirsten's persistence to understand her illness uncovered the possibility that she was suffering chronic bacterial infections causing MS type symptoms. This was confirmed by a USA laboratory where her blood tested positive for Lyme Disease, a disease not recognised in Australia. As with other Australian Lyme patients, she has struggled to gain both the recognition of the diagnosis and the necessary treatment. The BCA-clinic in Augsburg, Germany is one of the few facilities in the world that will conduct a comprehensive diagnosis and implement a treatment regime tailored to her needs. This is where we need your help. Kirsten is a prime candidate to benefit from the treatment offered. She would dearly love to fulfil her dream of being well enough to start a family, but would love to even begin with being able to walk her dogs and begin working again. Costs for this treatment include flights for Kirsten and a carer, accommodation, food and clinic expenses. Donations of any size are greatly appreciated. Let’s help Kirsten have the opportunity to get the treatment she so desperately needs. She will seize this chance to improve her own quality of life but will also use her experience to both raise awareness of Lyme Disease in Australia and help others access the same treatment.
