I am raising funds to present at the 7th APCRSHR (Asia Pacific Conference on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights) with the directors of CAP Nepal (Center for Awareness Protection Nepal) in Manila, Philippines from January 21-24, 2014.

Our presentation is entitled: "Mobile Counseling Camps: an effective medium to reduce women's exposure to sexual exploitation in cabin restaurants, dance bars, and massage parlors in Kathmandu, Nepal."

CAP Nepal is focused on changing the situation of women who are forced to work in the entertainment industry. The concept of the mobile counseling camp is one innovative project among others that CAP Nepal has developed.

It is very important that CAP Nepal participates in the conference for several major reasons, as follows:

  1. It is necessary to raise awareness at the international level of the issues of Nepali female entertainment workers. While the government has been pressured to address these issues, not much has changed. CAP Nepal is working towards raising an awareness at the international level in order to compel the government to listen.
  2. Other countries that are struggling with finding ways to reach women working in the entertainment sector and provide support for them may find the concept of the mobile counseling camp a highly effective strategy. CAP Nepal intends to introduce this model at the international level as a best practice strategy for other countries to adopt.

Presenting at the 7th APCRSHR involves expenses of $3000, including:

  • Conference registration fee: $650
  • Flight: $1000
  • Hotel: $500
  • Substitute for my 2nd grade classroom for one week: 1000 CHF

Thank you for your interest in this project!

Best Regards,

Claire Kiley
