Having cerebral palsy means I have to rely on a lot of people for a lot of things. Getting a new van will enable me to have more freedom and independence. Please help!!

Those of you that know me well know that I am very independent minded and my goal always is to get through life with as little "help" as possible.  The truth is, in order for me to purchase a much needed new van, I need a little help.  The van that I am currently using is a '97 Chevy Astro that was purchased and adapted for me in 2000.  Over the last couple of years, I've had some problems with it and to make a long story short, it is no longer safe to drive because of brake and rear end problems.  It is also leaking around the rear door due to rust, causing problems with the lift and tie-downs.

After working with Equipalife and researching various options, I have decided the best option is to purchase a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. Going with a new van will guarantee that I won’t have mechanical bills for quite a few years.  Being able to do this is exciting for me as I have never owned a vehicle of my own however, making the monthly payments on a fixed income is going to be extremely tight.  If I can have a down payment of $5,000, the payments would be $100/month lower and much more within my budget.

My Mom and Stepdad, Leslie and Scott, do so much for me already and I am very grateful for all their love and support.  They are always there and I know they will step in when necessary, however I don't want to add my van payment to their list of things they worry about.  I would never ask for huge donations from everyone - even $5 or $10 will help.

I decided to reach out to everyone because I know a lot of you care about me very much.... and even if you don't know me personally, many of you know of me and you know what a humble, kind-hearted, loving guy I really am.  Over the years I have heard time and time again that part of being independent is knowing when to ask for help.  So, I am humbling myself today and simply asking, if you are able, can you help me make this happen?  Getting this van doesn't just enable me to be more independent, it will also help ensure that I can go see my Grandma.  She just turned 78 years old and at this point is doing fine but traveling, even on an airplane, is difficult for her.  She is in Missouri; I am in Minnesota, so the time I get to spend with her is limited to her trips to see me.  I've learned so much from her that I try to carry with me daily.  She is one of the most important people in my life and with a reliable vehicle I can make a trip to see well as high school friends I have not seen in years.

Public transportation for the disabled in my area is available but is somewhat limited in scheduling and geographic coverage.  A reliable van would allow me to seek out a whole new community....i.e. volunteering, maybe even employment.

You can make a credit or debit card donation through Paypal even if you do not have a Paypal account - you will have the option to donate as a guest when you click the “Give” button.

Thank you for your time and thank you in advance for your generosity and support.  Even if you just read this but can't do any more than that, thank you for taking the time to do so. Please feel free to pass this on to your friends and family.

Thanks again and God bless!
