Ashley Fuller hasn't added a story.
Sweet, super Sawyer Alexander has reached almost 7 months of age, a feat he was not assured at birth. About a month before he was born, doctors told his parents Natalie and Ben Alexander That he had a serious heart defect called Ebsteins anomaly. They were unsure if he would survive the birth, much less the surgeries that he would inevitable have to undergo if he would make it to see 6 months of age. When he came, he spent almost his first two months of life hooked up to machines keeping him alive in the NICU. His parents could not even hold their baby. During his stay in the NICU, he had to go on a machine called ECMO which is a heart and lung bypass. This machine is the only thing that kept him alive while doctors discovered he had not one, but two heart conditions. They didn't know if he would even make it off of the ECMO, but Sawyer defied the odds. He came off of the ECMO, and within two weeks he was strong enough to go home.
Since then, Sawyer has been in and out of the hospital. He has a tendency to go into SVT when he gets any sort of infection. The first time he was admitted it was caused by the rhinovirus, or the common cold.
Having a child is an emotional roller coaster under the best circumstances, but Natalie and Ben have been living in constant turmoil, worrying about what the future holds for their baby. Not only has this been an emotionally draining experience, it has been financially draining. Natalie has to take off work each time Sawyer has an episode so he is not left alone in the hospital. In addition, it seems like Sawyer's luck with dodging surgeries has run out. He is in the hospital right on life support after surviving his most recent episode in which doctors said he had only a 5% chance of surviving. The Alexanders are now waiting to see which surgery he will require. Heart surgery is risky in the best of cases and the last thing this family should have to worry about right now is whether or not they can afford hia substantial medical expenses. Please help the Alexanders in any way you are able while they go through the hardest year of their lives.
