I'm going on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic in July 2013. It feels like forever since I have seen my Dominican friends and I know each of them are growing so tall. They will not be so little this time. That’s okay because we are already ... More ...
I'm going on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic in July 2013. It is amazing how and where God can show-up in your life. When I decided to go on the mission trip to the Dominican Republic back in 2009, I was just thinking this would be fun and neat to do. I had never been on a mission trip before and just wanted to see what it was all about….and we were going to a Caribbean island after all. Now this tiny village in the central mountains of the Dominican Republic has captured my heart and a passion to serve them. I regularly communicate with friends there via letters and now even Facebook. Tonya and I sponsor a little girl, Sheyla, to attend a Christian school where she can learn English. We also support House Upon the Rock Ministries which operates the medical clinic in addition to serving the Pedregal village through various projects. My one time trip has turned into a yearly mission trip with my church, Mosaic.

Our July mission trip will be a construction project yet to be determined. House Upon the Rock Ministries operates a program very similar to Habitat for Humanity. They help families get adequate housing and shelter from the elements with the help of mission teams. Sometimes it requires new construction of a home and sometimes just improvement of the existing structure. The mission teams work hand-in-hand with the family to complete the project. The teams supply the funds for building materials and are the free labor. God calls us to help and serve others and we use these resources to make a positive impact in the lives of these families. In reality, the construction project takes a back seat to building relationships with the people. What matters most is our relationship with God and the people He has placed in our lives…and he has placed these Dominicans in my life. We are to help those who need it, and to do it in such a way that leaves the person’s dignity intact and his or her future brighter. This mission trip is a simple, tangible way that I can do that…and you can too.

You can try to make a difference in the world by going at it alone, but there is strength and power in numbers. God designed one body with many parts, all working together and interdependent upon each other. It doesn’t take a person with unusual ability to change the world. All it takes is a heart that cares, a mind that’s determined, a spirit that’s willing, a cause that matters and a person to help. I hope and pray that you will join me in helping. More than anything, I would value your prayers for our team and people we will be serving. Please pray for safety, smooth travel, good health and the financial support we need. Please pray that God would bless us with the “seed” to “sow” into the lives of these people.

Just as prayer is critical to this mission trip, so is raising the funds needed to support the work we will do. Each team member needs to raise $1000 to cover the total cost of the trip. This amount includes airfare, food, lodging, transportation expenses and most importantly…construction project supplies. We need to raise all our funds by June 16th. I would really appreciate your prayful consideration of giving financially to help me meet this need. Every little amount matters; there will be no wasted resources. Joy will come from knowing that people are better off because of the value you have added to their lives.

If you have any questions or would like more information about the trip, please don’t hesitate to call me at 864-275-1521. Or e-mail me at If you prefer, you can also mail a check directly to me.

I can’t wait to serve for God’s Kingdom in the Dominican Republic and let you know all about what God is doing there.

Thanks for your prayer and support.
