Rocco was surrendered to the shelter by his owner three weeks ago because he couldn't afford to take care of him, not that he really was caring for him very much at all to begin with. Rocco is rail thin, his coat is dull and rough, and he has some sticky substance all over him. He's 4-5 years old. According to his previous owner, he was a "yard dog"- kept in a pen outside. And he's NEVER seen a vet. It's not a shock that he is heartworm positive. Being neglected and starved in his old “home”, Rocco looked for anything to eat so he could stay alive...and eventually, he ended up eating dirt and rocks because he was so hungry. This ended up breaking all four of his canines. Rocco, medically, has been suffering due to the neglectful life he lived.
At the shelter, Rocco was not fairing well. He was scheduled to be euthanized due to the fact he appeared very ill and he was not moving. As soon as I found out, I arrived to the shelter and took Rocco straight to the vet. Turns out that Rocco wasn’t moving because he was ill, but instead, because he was being dominated by his kennel mates. Poor Rocco’s heels and elbows were rubbed raw, and his poor back had abrasions all over it making it red and bloody. As you can imagine, this is not a pretty sight and had to be extremely uncomfortable for poor Rocco.
Currently, Rocco is being treated at the local vet, where he has been staying for the past 3 weeks. He’s been bathed and his back has been shaved to clean and treat all of the abrasions. He has also started on doxycycline (for both his heartworms and kennel cough) and he’s been giving a dewormer for the nasty whipworms inside of him (due to eating the dirt and rocks).
Through it all, Rocco has remained a sweet, sweet boy, but Rocco needs your help. Please donate what you can towards the care of Rocco. Together, we can change his life around, one dollar at a time.
Please donate if you can...in a few months, Rocco will be as good as new, but I can’t do it alone.
