In 2023 San Lo' dance studio turns 20. It seems incredible, but two decades have passed since we started! Our mission is to promote Dance in all its forms. We organize courses, workshops, shows, multicultural events and an international festival that has been happening for more than 10 years - it's the Roma Tribal Meeting, first Italian Fusion Bellydance festival.

For those who don't know us, we are Isabel and Lara and we founded this school thanks to the funds for women's entrepreneurship obtained from the EU/Lazio region, and also thanks to a lot of effort, a lot of work, an entrepreneurial spirit and the collaboration of countless artists and students who brought this place to life, dedicating to all dance styles.

We are oriental dance teachers and all the cultures of the world are at the center of our interests. We want to tell you a story about this image: it is an original photograph by Marco Palombi, a renowned Roman photojournalist who has been traveling since the 1990s to collect images and videos for his reports from around the world. Ethnic minorities, nomadic peoples and the contrasts between West and East become the fulcrum of his photographic research. Marco Palombi is a friend of us and at the inauguration party of San Lo', on November 23rd, 2003, we had the honor of hosting an exhibition of him. At the end of which Marco gave us this image. It has therefore always been here: as soon as you enter the studio, you find it in front of you. It is iconic for those who know San Lo', it transmits that charge of human, musical and artistic energy that we want to nourish our space with. That's why we have chosen this image as a symbol of the 20th anniversary. We have created this fundraising / crowdfunding campaign which includes some objects in which this photo appears as a prize: we have created a bag, a set of tea cups, etc.

And since the photographer is also an activist for Emergency, we have decided together with him that a part of our fundraising will be donated to this humanitarian association which offers the right to care for victims of war and poverty.

Our school is located in the historic San Lorenzo district in Rome, but since 2020 it has also been active online, offering streaming lessons for those who prefer to practice from home or for those who are in other cities and even in other countries.
