Millions of abandoned and stray cats and dogs are euthanized each year in shelters. Why?? Failure to spay/neuter pets which results in unwanted puppies and kittens. Failure to vaccinate and provide preventative treatment which results in unaffordable medical costs. Lack of funds, space and adopters.
4 Paws 1 Heart was established in August, 2010 to address these needs by funding medical treatment for stray animals thus allowing them a greater chance to find that forever home. With donations made by individuals and businesses and by developing relationships with veterinarians, $1.7 million has been paid to local veterinary clinics to fund medical treatment for over 10,000 stray and abandoned companion animals.
And, unlike large non-profit organizations with high overhead and paid employees, 99.9% of all donated dollars go directly to the medical treatment of the animals. Medical treatment will always include spay/neuter, testing and vaccines but too often it includes more severe treatment which may include orthopedic surgery, heart worm treatment and the removal of eyes/limbs resulting from abuse, infections or just the harshness of living on the streets.
Through the generosity of our supporters, 4 Paws 1 Heart continues to be a unique resource for individual rescuers, first responders, animal control officers and veterinary clinics who turn to us for financial help. Together we have made a significant impact on our communities and the welfare of abandoned, abused and injured animals within them.
