Hello, My name is Megan Stauffer and I teach 4th grade at Elmonica Elementary. Each year, we spend time reading and learning about the historical fiction genre, but my classroom and school library do not contain enough books/variety to support our entire grade level. This project will allow us to purchase close to 100 brand new books for our 4th graders! They'll have access to current, high interest, continued series of historical fiction books such as Blast From the Past, Imagination Station, I Survived, Ranger in Time, Hazardous Tales, and Horrible Histories.
I have never had a student *not* be excited by new books, but what
becomes even more special is seeing a student fall in love with a new
genre because they have the right book in their hands. I see it every
year in the few historical fiction books I do have, and I know their
joy can grow deeper and be sustained with a wider range of books and
series. It's truly a wonder how something so small can spark
such great learning when the right tools are available.

Founded in 1988, the Beaverton Education Foundation raises money to provide hands-on innovative academic enrichment and advancement programs & projects that go beyond normal school funding at all Beaverton public schools and is a 501(c)(3) community-based nonprofit organization. BEF mobilizes community resources to fund innovative classroom projects, summer and after-school programs.
