Melanee Sloan hasn't added a story.
Hello, My Friends! It's your pal, Melanee Sloan, here! I'm INCREDIBLY excited to announce that I will be participating in the 2019 Aprons for Gloves non-profit boxing tournament, as a charity for Eastside Boxing Club! I'll be representing my work family (the Diamond, in Gastown) and can't wait to show you the progress and the amazing outcome this program works towards.
For those of you who don't know, Aprons for Gloves was started by the solid crew over at Eastside Boxing Club to help improve the lives and build a community through the gym. They host a multitude of outreach programs for at-risk youth, mothers with young babes, and all members of the Downtown Eastside who may not have the means to participate in a safe and collaborative environment. These boxing and mentorship programs are completely FREE and create a foundation for life's lessons on discipline, respect, hard-work, and self-control. Additional benefits to the programs include access to healthy snacks, education on proper nutrition, and an overall sense of community. Establishing these components results in positive self-esteem, great physical AND mental health, as well as a sense of security, and the ability to defend oneself in any situation.
Over the next 3 months, I will be dedicating 3 days a week to train
in the ring, but I will be also asking for your support to reach my
goals. In order to qualify for a rumble on fight night, I need to
reach my fundraising goal of $2000 by August 15th. The first goal is
to raise $500 by July 1. If you can, please join me in
supporting an amazing cause by sharing my campaign, spreading the
word, and making a contribution to the at-risk youth, women and all
non-binary brothers and sisters involved! Every dollar counts
towards changing lives.
I'm incredibly excited, a little bit terrified, but
overall ready to give it my all. Thanks for your time! Let's kill it!
Founded in 2012, Aprons for Gloves Boxing Association is a non-profit organization focused on providing community outreach through the sport of boxing. Based in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, the organization was developed by a small group of professionals and entrepreneurs who seized an opportunity to re-establish a historic boxing program for at-risk women and youth. The program offers free mentorship and training to individuals who may otherwise not have the resources or support to participate in such activities. The sport of boxing teaches discipline, respect, hard work and self-control. Training results in positive self-esteem, good health and camaraderie for its practitioners.
Restaurant Rumble 2019
Every year bartenders, chefs, dishwaters, servers, baristas and all sorts of individuals from the Gastown community get together to train at the Eastside Boxing Club to fight in Restaurant Rumble.
In order to attend training, each fighter is required to raise $2000 for charity before they can compete at the Rumble.
