As some of you are aware, our sister Rebekah Stott has been diagnosed with Charcot Marie Tooth Disease (CMT). CMT is a genetic disorder that damages the nerves in the arms and legs. The effects are gradual and results in loss of sensation, muscle weakness and loss of balance that makes everyday tasks like walking very difficult. Unfortunately there is no cure or treatment available for CMT, which makes this a life long condition. But regular medical, physiotherapy and podiatry appointments can make life better. Andrew Stott Emily Pfeiffer and myself are organising a fund raiser for Bek to generate some money to assist In Bek’s medical treatment and support, as well as raise awareness of what CMT is and how it effects those that have it. To show our support to Bek we have created the ‪#‎Run4Bek‬ campaign. We are going to run the Melbourne Marathon as part of the Melbourne Marathon Festival which is held on Sunday October 12 this year. And we are asking you to join us. There are four events, 3km, 10km, Half Marathon and Marathon. If you don’t feel like running, you can support #Run4Bek by attending on race day and cheer for those that are or attend the post run celebration. It would be great if everyone can use this page, to post training photo's and messages of inspiration. Please use the hashtag #RUN4BEK when posting on FB, Twitter, Instagram etc. Chris Franklin is creating a video clip that tells Bek’s story, when its ready we will post a link here that will take you to a website where you can watch it and if you choose, donate. Our goal is to raise $3000 for Bek. What will the money be used for? Bek’s on her own and requires regular specialist, podiatry, physiotherapy and occupational therapy appointments. Into the future she may require, walking aids and foot and ankle braces. It’s the frequency of all of the appointments, which leads to the cost adding up. If you do plan on running, please see the separate post on “How to Enter Team #Run4Bek”
