Hi my name is lorna, i am 21 and i am trying to raise funds to do 3 months voluntry work at two animal orphanages in Africa. i will be spending my first 6 weeks working at the moholoholo wildlife rehabilitation centre (as seen on paul ogrady animal orphans), and the last 6 weeks at Chipangali wildlife orphanage and research project.

At these pojects i will be helping with:

  • Animal care, feeding and husbandry
  • Wildlife rehabilitation and release
  • Hand rearing infant animals
  • Assisting with routine health and dietary requirements, including worming and vaccinations
  • Animal enrichment
  • Support wildlife research at the centres including data collection of zoological records including physiology and behaviour of species
  • Assist with leopard, cheetah and brown hyena population studies
  • Food preparation
  • Cleaning out enclosures, including large carnivore enclosures.
  • Assisting with educational tours at the centre for public and local schoolchildren.
  • Hand rearing infant animals, including feeding, socialising and husbandry of enclosures.
  • Health and routine vaccinations such as worming programmes are assisted with.

Animals are taken in when they have been injured or poisoned, orphans are helped when there parents are killed, and they need the care of volunteers so they can be released to live normal lives.

These centres are run by volunteers and need hands on help with the day to day running. Due to some of the animals injuries they can never be released back into the wild and therefore need constant care. I am working every day to try and raise the funds needed to help these reserves.

I need as much help as possible towards the financial side of this project such as flights and kit, It is costing nearly £8,000 to do this trip. I am volunteering with african conservation and 55% of the money goes directly to the reserves, so any donation big or small is greatly appriciated and you will be greatly helping the animlas that need it most.
