Marc Smitty hasn't added a story.
The word "charity" entered the English language through the Old French word "charité" which was derived from the Latin"caritas".
--------------
"caritas" meant preciousness, dearness and high price.
--------------
We still pay this high price. So lets start with the
Why?
We have the strong believe that community can only function when every part of it is treated with respect and tolerance. Our Hospitality background made us aware of culture diversity and critical thinking of current issues our society is facing over time. We want to unleash the power of community to show the possible impact with small actions. Human rights are treated unequally worldwide and our European lifestyle can be regarded as a gift in international comparison to those - who have nothing.
Let us demonstarte our abilities and support with our opportunities given - FUNDRAISING.
What?
Fundraising for UNICEF to support child refugees in Syria, as we believe this is a serious issus which has not yet the necessary attention needed to eliminate this issue. Simple.
Who?
We are a group of students from the Hotelschool The Hague, The Netherlands. We are organising a cultural dance event to raise funds for UNICEF to help the refugees in Syria.
We selected this charity organization because the horrible actions
against the human rights broke our heart when we first saw it on the
news. At that moment we decided to make a difference. To change the
world piece by piece.
Together lets do something to help people in
desperate need.
By organising this event we want to move people closer together
and share a great evening for the devastating thing happening
cinsidering the human rights. The event will include hiphop and salsa
workshops, raffel and a moment to dance togheter to raise money for
making a change!
According to UNICEF, there are major dominating funding needs, as
split down below:
Why UNICEF?
Let us go to the current UNICEF Highlights for 2013 for Syria, to further ellaborate this:
- Syria: With the ICRC, 10 million people ensured sustained access
to safe water; 1.5
million children received school supplies; over 491,000 children provided psychosocial
support through school clubs and child friendly spaces; 2.2 million children vaccinated
against polio; and over one million blankets and over 188,ooo children’s clothing sets
have been delivered to SARC and other partners for distribution to benefit over 1.5
million people.
- The Polio National Immunization Campaign held between 8 and 16
December
2013 reached 2,177,699 children under five in all 14 governorates. Initial results
show the January campaign has reached 1.3 million children, with results still
pending from a number of governorates. There are indications of improvement
of the quality of the campaign.
• UNICEF participated in a cross line mission to hard-to-reach areas of rural Idlib,
in Syria's north-west. Emergency supplies for 15,000 vulnerable children and
families provided by UNICEF were delivered during the mission. The area has
been inaccessible for humanitarian agencies in the past 18 months.
• The continuation of the conflict continues to hamper access to affected population in areas such as rural Damascus, parts of Aleppo,
Homs and Dar’a. Access constraints are also impacting on delivery of supplies to Al-Hassakeh.
