Jen Anderson hasn't added a story.
I have had Kila since I was 21 years old. She is my baby; she has literally been there for me through everything.
Last month I noticed that she was yelping when she was walking so I rushed her to her Vet. The Vet took x-rays, blood work and evaluated her. He said she has arthritis in her back legs and towards the bottom of her spine. Kila has had an issue with her back right leg due to the fact that three years ago she tore her ACL while running at the park. Her Vet, at the time, stated instead of paying the $3200 bill to operate, her ACL could reheal itself but it wouldn’t be 100%. I decided to let her leg heal itself since I could not afford the surgery.
We left the Vet, we got her medication and the next week I noticed she wasn’t acting the same. She wasn’t able to keep her balance, she seemed depressed, she never wanted to get up and move, she would tilt to the right, loose her balance and going down two stairs to get outside was impossible because she would fall. So I took her back to the Vet, they evaluated her and they stated it’s neurological. She wasn’t blinking out of her left eye and the left side of her mouth was droopy. She also couldn’t lift her head. They stated it could be an inflamed brain stem or it was a brain tumor. I was told to have a neurologist look at her to get a better opinion; she stayed the night at her Vet since it was so hard for her to walk. She isn’t in any pain but it was difficult for her to function. I got a call the next day stating she likely had a brain tumor and was given the options of putting her down or letting her stay the way she was and try other medications to see if that would help. I decided I wanted to try other things. I love my dog more than anything and didn’t want to make a decision so quick. She was put on an inflammatory and steroid medicine to help. I started to see great improvement, she was able to walk better, not lose her balance as much, and she seemed happier again and had more energy.
I did my own research and found that it could possibly be Vestibular Disease or Hypothyroidism. She has symptoms of both diseases. Yesterday I noticed that she is now not blinking from both of her eyes. I am putting eye drops in her eyes, to produce moisture. To get a better understanding in what is going on with Kila, I have to get an MRI done for her so they can see what part of the brain (if any) is having an issue. I cannot afford to continue going to the Vet to have her evaluated. Getting an MRI done will give me a final answer that is needed.
I am a HUGE Pitbull lover. Kila is my first pitbull and she is my everything. She is like my daughter and I just want to find out what’s going on with her so I can help her. Anything would help and I appreciate the help. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!
