Alana McAlinn hasn't added a story.
Brutus the American Bulldog was saved from death row at Philadelphia's Animal Care & Control two years ago less than 24 hours before being "destroyed".
Weighing in at 60 pounds, this big love bug was emaciated, had an eye infection and his skin was so irritated he was missing most of his fur, and had a bad ear infection as well.
After two years of TLC, food (and much of it) and constant care, Brutus is up to about 90 pounds and is the biggest love bug you've ever met.
At the time of his adoption, Brutus had a mass on his left side, which was determined to be a fatty deposit and deemed to be non cancerous and non-malignant. Watchful eyes were kept upon the mass to ensure no changes in size, feeling or anchoring of the mass which would be indicative of malignancy requiring biopsy and/or removal.
On Christmas 2013, at 2 am, Brutus was lethargic and not himself. he was barely eating, shaking, and a completely different dog.
His owners immediately rushed him to Gwynedd Veterinary Hospital, a 24 hour care facilty to ensure his health was not in jeopardy. It was determined that he was fighting an infection, dehydrated and his mass was necrotizing.
After fighting a fever, his mass abscessed and required draining. An ultrasound and chest-xray were performed to ensure that the mass was not malignant, and if it was that it had not spread to other areas of the body. He had edema in his soft tissues along the left side of the body and the fluid build up required lancing of the area to begin draining the fluids.
Brutus will be undergoing emergency surgery to remove the mass and the necrotizing tissues on December 27th 2013. His vet bills have become quite high due to the urgency of his case and the required constant medical attention. His mommy works full time and just graduated from college and his daddy is currently out of work, and searching for a way to pay for his medical care. Hours after his admission, his bill was already estimated at over 1600, with additions to the bill constantly with changes in his condition, testing and care requirements.
He has a full chance of recovery, and is expected to live a healthy and happy life after his procedure, however payment is due in full at time of discharge. Please help us get our big bully home and pay for some of his medical bills! Any little bit helps! This big man has gone from an emaciated, untrusting and abused dog who was about to be put down to the biggest, oafiest love bug we've known who is trusting and truly a kind soul !
