Maisha rescues children from the streets and slums in Kenya, orphaned mainly by HIV/AIDS and the 2007 post election violence, and gives them a safe and loving home, food, and education in a semi-rural village outside Nairobi.

20 children and 5 caregivers live in a small, single family home, while 2 kids supported by Maisha still live with their grandmothers.

The Maisha kids continue to improve in school, most are in the top 30% of their classes (with class sizes up to 85 students), and have dreams to become Kenya's future scientists, engineers, pilots, and surgeons.  With the love and support they get from Mama Maisha and the incredible staff, they all have bright futures ahead.

Secondary school fees average $861 per student per year, or $72 per student per month. In the next 6 years, we need to send another 16 kids to secondary school.

Educational tutoring
6 days a week will ensure that kids continue to learn during their long school breaks, with special support for those who need more individual attention. $289 pays for tutoring during the 3 school breaks in a year.

Drumming and singing and acrobatics classes provide a culturally appropriate outlet for emotional healing while promoting self-confidence, discipline, and psychosocial development. 2 hours of classes including both activities is just under $5 for 1 child. $4741 pays for weekly classes for all kids for 1 year.

An additional fund for university tuition and vocational training will help pave the way for bright, sustainable futures.

Actual costs may vary depending on exchange rate fluctuations between the USD and KES and inflation.
