We’re asking for your support on this ongoing chapter of re-membering/healing. We need $300 towards attending a curanderísmo class at UNM: “Traditional Medicine without Borders: Curanderismo in the Southwest/Mexico.” Every granito de arena helps! More ...
ELIZABETH RODRIGUEZ: As I experience life’s transitions, a part of me that always remains is my appreciation for nature. I find love and beauty walking outdoors, relishing in the feeling of rain on my skin, climbing a tree, sitting in the warm sunshine, etc. In my imagination, my relationship with nature is also important as I create nature metaphors that aid in my healing rituals.
I am so grateful that nature has always helped me to re-member myself. On a curandera path, I hope to walk with others as we come back to ourselves/nature.

SUSANA RAMIREZ: My grandmother passed away when my dad was five-years-old, and all I was left with was bits and pieces of her memory. But one memory stands out to me. When she died, the small Mexican pueblo my family is from had shunned her because she was a “bruja.” My dad shares this with me with a shadow of shame, even as he also shares with me the pride for the hierbitas he uses to heal himself…

Each healing hierbita brings me closer to mi abuelita, and ultimately, to myself. I’ve been re-membering my grandmother, and her brujaness. She first spoke to me through song as I played my jarana, and she continues to visit me as I learn about curanderísmo. She reminds me I’m a healer. I heal with words, song, hierbitas, laughter, tears, and I’m still re-membering. I’ve been so blessed to learn from some of the most beautiful curander@s who have helped me excavate dormant parts of myself, and I remain committed to this path of healing the self/community with humility, patience, and lots of love.

COLLECTIVE: We cannot walk this camino alone, and need your support. We’ve earned scholarships to attend a two-week Curanderismo class at the University of New Mexico titled: “Traditional Medicine without Borders: Curanderismo in the Southwest & Mexico.” But we still need $300 to cover gas and food expenses for traveling to/from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Surrounded by curander@ elders from all over the world, our bodymindspirits tell us that this space will be essential towards re-membering “conocimientos” or knowledges we carry inside of us (Anzaldúa). In appreciation, we commit to sharing what we learn from this class via a blog and/or zine. Gracias de todo corazón! <3
