Iris was a soon to be 14 year old Dachshund who we had to let go to the Rainbow Bridge. The vet bill was way more than expected. But as any dog owner knows, you will help them until you know there's no hope. This was the last picture taken of her that day
Iris was a soon to be 14 year old Dachshund who we had to let go to the Rainbow Bridge. Up until Friday she was happy and appeared to be healthy. Friday morning she was lethargic, wouldn't eat or drink, and couldn't walk. At the time we thought it was her back. As Dachshunds are prone to back issues, and she had some in the past. We took her to the vet and were devastated at what we were told. The Doctor told us she had Pyometra and her uterus had ruptured. My Mom had got her when she was 2 years old. The original owners had wanted to use her for a show dog and never had to spayed, and when my Mom got her she did not either for reasons I do not know. It is beyond sad that one decision so long ago cut short Iris's life.

On Friday her fever was 106, she was septic, and had dangerously low blood sugar. I had asked the Vet why she had shown no symptoms until that day and she said her body must of just been adjusting to what was wrong inside her until her body just couldn't take it anymore. To lose a dog is hard, but to lose one so unexpectedly made it even worse. I still think she is going to bark at me when I walk into a room, and I miss how she would let out a huge burp after she had her dinner.

My Mom is on SSDI for mental and physical disabilities, and I am her caretaker. Her income is limited and the bill was a lot more then we thought. Any help would be appreciated. Thankfully the vet's office is willing to work with us on payments. If the goal is reached and there is extra I will donate to a Rescue, or make a donation to a spay and neuter program. I can not change the decision that was made to not spay her, but if I can prevent another family from losing their dog in the same way I will.

I do have a copy on the invoice, but I was not sure how to post an additional picture. A copy is available upon request.

Thank you!
