Our beloved 88 year old grandmother lost her home due to 4 feet of water that ravaged her home during Super- storm Sandy. Our "nanny" or as many know her by, Millie, lived in her home for the past 65 years. It is located in Woodmere, New York, an area on the south shore of Long Island. Woodmere is a town that is part of a whole area known as the "five towns". The five towns area was devasted by the storm and has been forgotten due to the media's attention on other wider known areas such as Staten Island and the Jersey shore. She and so many others in the Five towns need to be recognized and need help! "Nanny's" car was also flooded in the storm. She is now living with her grandson and his family and relies on them for everything. Although they can temporarily put a roof over her head our family simply can not afford to re-build her home, as so many of other family members are going through the same crisis. Nanny is very well known in her community and is quite active in her local church. In fact she has played the organ there since she was 16 years old. Known to be the spunkiest 88 year old around, she is beginning to lose hope. Her entire first floor must be must be gutted, appropriately cleaned and rebuilt from scratch. As most of you probably know, living in New York is quite expensive as is building costs etc. If you would like to help Nanny return home please offer help. Any amount will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
