Sunny's (formerly Lavender) story is a sad one. Found and picked up by animal control in Ansonia, CT in March 2014, she was bred, starved near death, then dumped. In addition, it was quickly discovered that she had numerous masses along her mammaries as well as others throughout her body. After getting to a safe and stable condition, she lucked out found herself a loving hospice foster home where she can enjoy life and get the love and fun she seems to have never had before.

Due to the nature, size, location, and quantity of her masses the decision was made, after many discussions with vets, by her parents to not pursue removal or biopsy (which can only be done during the 1st of 3-4 surgeries to perform a radical hysterectomy. These surgeries would be very intense, painful, and require a long period of healing followed by another surgery and then another. These surgeries would require months of limited activity and discomfort with no guarantee of a longer life in the end.  Because she has been suffering from an ongoing case of pyoderma and and bacertial ear infection, (among other things) her body's ability to fight infection and repair injuries to the skin caused by the pyoderma has been greatly impacted...which has been making any sort of a quick recovery difficult.  To add to it all, her recent heat cycle resulted in her lactating, which led to a mastitis (painful infection of her breasts and milk ducts).

Recently, additional (and costly) tests and treatments have been needed to try to get her skin, her feet, her breasts/milk ducts, and her ears cleared-up. With new masses around her chest and newly developed symptoms that show that her condition may have possibly metastasized into her lungs, Sunny and her foster parents are in need of some help to ensure she gets everything needed to not only get a determination on what is going on (ultrasound and/or xrays, tissue & fluid cultures, follow-up care, prescriptions, and so on...) but also to make sure that steps can be taken to ensure a quality of life without limited funds determining what care she can or cannot receive receive.

Any help toward her vet expenses would be greatly appreciated. They will help to ensure that tests, treatments, and check-ups and whatever else is needed can be completed without delay.

If you would like to help, no donation is too small!    She is currently under the care of the great doctors at Westbury Animal Hospital in Westbury, NY.   If you are more comfortable calling in a payment to them directly to be applied to her account you can call them at 516-333-1123 during business hours.  Her account is listed under Sunny Acker.
