My two cats Angel (11) and Mittens(10) were picked up by someone who said he would take care of them until I got established in my new home. he picked them up on Saturday August 16, he called me non stop harrassing me telling me this was wrong with my cat Angel and how investigators had her and that he had my other cat Mittens. I had the Menasha PD at my home Sunday morning 1:30AM to help me get my cat back or to find out where she was. I called the Appleton Referral Center on Sunday the lady stated their were two cats turned in as stray on Saturday but none of what fit the description of my cat Angel and to call the Fox Valley Humane Society to see if they had them. I emailed FVHS on Sunday from work asking them to call me if they have received a cat matching Angels description, no one ever returned my call Monday I happened to go on their website and I saw my Angel I immediately called FVHS and the lady who answered seemed to laugh at me and laugh at the situation and said well if my cat went stray she'd have to pay to reclaim her as well. Their charge is 99.10 to reclaim and then you have to get rabies vaccination up to date and also licensed in the city you live in. I tried explaining the situation that this guy lied to them that she was not a stray and he was to be watching her for me.
I went back to work and was curious to see where it was stated on the website that she was found and then I saw my other cat as well on there Mittens, he lied again he didnt have Mittens either. They both were claimed to be found the same day and that it was in Little Chute that they were found. I have been devestated ever since trying to get my cats back. I went to the FVHS yesterday spoke with a worker there explained the situation she checked with Jenny who is the coordinator for the FVHS to see about waiving the fees to get my cats back and the lady came back and told me unfortunetly they cant waive the 99.10 per cat but they will do me a favor and waive the transfer fee of 40 some dollars. She also advised me that I could contact the Menasha PD to see if they would approve to waive this fee and call and let FVHS know but I would still need current rabies vaccinations proof and also a license for them for City of Menash. I contacted the Menasha PD and the officer told me that technically and he wasnt trying to be insensitive to my situation but the officer that was at my residence should not have made a police report and that he was on vacation until Thursday at 2pm then he would get the police report signed off on by a supervisor. The officer refused to contact the FVHS to tell them to waive this fee.
I got a call back from Jenny today at 4:08pm telling me that it is quite an interesting story, and the report shows that the guy told the referral center that these cats were abused and the FVHS showed no sign of that but in this case the reclaim fee of 99.10 per cat would apply unless Menasha PD decides to waive it. So now I guess I am on here asking for the publics help in getting my cats back. I am living on my own, I make $10 an hour and my cats have been with me since they have been born Angel was born on February 14 2003 and Mittens was born March 2004. It is inhumane for the FVHS to keep my cats knowing the situation but they aren't looking at the best interest of the cats and knowing someone (being me) is out there trying their hardest to get them back. The lady also stated to me on the phone on Monday that if they are spraying (which they are fixed), not using litter box, or are aggressive with the staff they will be put down after the 7 day "stray" hold. I can't let this happen to my babies. I am asking for anyone out there to please help me. I have posted on Facebook as has a friend of mine to get the word out but it seems the FVHS aren't looking out for the best interest of my cats they are looking for money.
