Sharnia (20) & Serena (26) are sisters and both being treated for SLE known as LUPUS at The Vasculitis and Lupus Centre Cambridge. They are regularly admitted for life saving treatment! The Lupus Nurse supports this campaign & every penny will go to them!

Sharnia Mockford (20yrs old) and Serena Bilcock (26yrs old) are sisters and are both being treated for SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythmatosis) known as LUPUS at The Vasculitis and Lupus Centre, Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, UK and are often being admitted for care. The sisters have had to give up on their hopes and dreams:

Sharnia Mockford was a talented springboard and highboard diver, a National Junior Elite UK Silver and Bronze Medalist and a South African National Gold Medalist. Unfortunately Sharnia's health deteriorated rapidly and was unable to dive and she could no longer attend college due to deteriorating health chronic pain and fatigue.

Serena Bilcock was working as an Auxillary Nurse at Addenbrookes Hospital and was offered a place to study Nursing at Homerton School of Nursing Cambridge to do a degree level course. Serena started getting ill and lost her job and her place at the Nursing School her place was deffered for 2 years but Serena's health did not improve and she lost her place. Serena has volunteered for St John Ambulance and ran the Soham St Johns Division until her health deteriorated rapidly the last year.

How Lupus affects my girls - I nearly lost my daughter Serena Samantha Bilcock 3 times in the last six months 1 ended up in icu with uncontrollable infection as her immune system does not work 2 started having seizures lupus attacking her brain and the 3 she had 2 heart attacks in half an hour lupus in her blood causing multiple pulmonary embolisms and clots in her heart.

The younger you get lupus the more active it is as the immune system is much more active. My younger daughter Sharnia Mockford has been hospitalised a number of times for kidney infections and uncontrollable overall infections. Sharnia Mockford and her sister are on a number of drugs too many to go into including immune suppressants to try control the lupus. Serena Bilcock is also on steroids hence the swelling her last resort is intravenous chemo therapy if the Lupus gets uncontrollable. Serena's adrenal gland has been damaged and does not work either so going into shock is dangerous for her. I hope you dont mind the information, as part of my campaign is to raise awareness as well as raise funds.
