Boozefighter Charmin hasn't added a story.
As many of you know chapter 171 has in the past has sold puzzlepin piece's in support of Autism. Here is a letter from a friend of our chapter who's son has Autism and is non-verbal and started puzzlepin.com to support the area of Autism. Lets all help Kerri and her effort .
Dear Friends and Family
As you all are very aware,I have a Hugh interest in the subject area of Autism. It has been 11 years since Ryan was diagnosed and this had a huge impact on our family.Ryan is still non-verbal and I long for the day when he just might speak the words "I love you mommy" But fro now I have taught him to show me, by spreading his arms wide open when I ask him how much he does. I remember when I used to cry and ask "why me?" but now I feel so blessed to have Ryan and his different abilities in my life . I would have it no other way.
For the last couple of years, Haley and I have been making and selling Autism Awareness pins that we call puzzlepins. It started as a little fund riser for a club that Haley was president of at the time. Surprisingly we made and sold enough puzzlepins to rise $4,000.00 in just under two months. The money was donated to Dan Marion foundation and would benefit Autism organizations such as Autism Society of America and the Center for Autism & related Disabilities. After that particular event we packed up our craft supplies, cleaned up the garage and called it a success. only about a week end gone by when we started getting phone call after phone call asking when and where we would be the pins next. after thinking long and hard raising about the possibility of not only raising more money for this cause but also spreading even more Autism Awareness. we knew we had to do it.
Since then,we have made and sold over 20,000 dollars of our little conversation piece's and raised thousands of dollars for countless schools and organizations. We have been able to purchase much needed tools for teachers and children in Autistic clusters. We've even gave a scholarship to a young Autistic man headed to collage.
The reason I am writing you is to ask for your help. We been asked by the Dan Marino Foundation to participate in the first ever Expo that will take place after the Dan Marino walkabout Autism on January 25,2014 at the Sun life Stadium. They have noticed the great things we have done in the community and have hand selected us to be a part of their very exclusive event. However, this does not come cheap and ironically, We need help to raise money to participate.
We are asking that you invest in this opportunity for us to help so many more people understand the message that we are trying to send. Those with Autism should not be defined by their disabilities, but by their different abilities. Anything that you can contribute, whether it be great or small would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
We love you,
Kerri,Haley,& Ryan
