Over the last couple of weeks we received numerous calls about the severely malnourished little Brittany Spaniel that  people had seen on the north side of town, but as evasive as a passing breeze, "Hope" would disappear into the shadows.

After three weeks of constant monitoring, strategic placement of food, and the setting of traps--we were losing faith that we would ever be able to capture her and give her the care she needed.

However, one afternoon, as a last ditch effort, a Volunteer drove down by the warehouses where she had last been seen.  He had brought along a small bowl of food, in the hopes that he would at least catch a glimpse of her...and he did.

There she was--standing in the first full viewing that anyone had ever caught a glimpse of.  Her frame was rail thin, ribs and shoulders protruding, her legs scarred and losing fur.  The skin on her hind quarters hung like deflated baloons, and her gaze was so piercing, the Volunteer thought she may run.  He eased toward her, placed the bowl of food down and took a step back.  Without hesitation, little Hope came forward, greedily ate the food and stood there.  The Volunteer kicked himself for not bringing a leash from the car, but he realized he may never have another chance to get this close to her again.  Slowly he reached his hand down, grabbed her gingerly on the nape of the neck and tried to lead her back to the car...

She was ready...surviving through whatever abuse and neglect she had, scavenging for scraps of discarded trash, no home and no medical attention at all, she was ready--

Hope followed him willingly.

Hope is currently undergoing testing to determine the nature of her injuries and illnesses.  Please share her story so that we may get her the care she needs, and the chance at a better--hopeful forever home.
