National Cancer Leadership Forum hasn't added a story.
So we spent 2 years consulting experts and talking to more than 70 cancer organizations, Everybody we knew. And because C2CC is a coalition of 70 cancer organizations we know a lot of smart people. And they told us a lot of smart things.
And now we know what to do.
Its called Canada’s BigScreen4Cancer. An interactive website about the risks and benefits of cancer screening. Getting all Canadians to talk with their doctor about a screening plan that is right for them could help seriously cut rates of cancer in this country in half. And we want share the news with you and every Canadian.
Through Canada’s BigScreen4Cancer, C2CC is building a movement around the importance of the right screening for every Canadian. The hub is thebigscreenforcancer.ca, a place where people come to share and learn. Especially people who hardly ever or never get screened – people with disabilities, people who are new to Canada, people who are over 65 or First Nations people or people who live in rural areas. (Hey, it’s a big country – not everybody gets the message or has a doctor or can find a place to get screened). The website will be the hometown for everybody's cancer story and your reason why screening is important.
We're calling it your "Screason". And that’s what we’re calling the awesome website your money is going to build in the next 2 months.
Every reason to live is a reason to ask the doctor about screening. We’re asking Canadians to tell us theirs—whether it’s a favorite place or a favorite person, a trip you’re planning or goals you’re pursuing, moments or memories. Whatever keeps you going.
We’re also asking people to recruit family and friends to the movement—tell them about the BigScreen4Cancer, ask them to share their Screasons, and encourage them talk to their doctor too.
The website will let people tweet, like and share. They can connect to authoritative information about screening. And they can see what moves others to talk to their doctor.
The website will launch in the fall of 2013, as soon as we raise $25K and build it. Initially it will launch directly to the people (like you) who donated money and helped spread the word. We’ll launch to our corporate sponsors and their staff and employees, among sponsors as well as organizations in C2CC’s network of 70 Canadian cancer organizations. This pre-launch phase provides the opportunity to give back to our donors with a “sneak preview” to everyone who got involved at an early stage, and become champions and ambassadors for this important issue. In this phase, we’re asking people to help pre-populate the site with Screasons, reach out to friends and family, and help build buzz before the site goes live to the Canadian public.
So this summer, get a mitt and get in the game. Right here. Right now. No sweat. Just Donate. $5 or more. As often as you can. And tell everybody you know who might have a Screason to help.
We’ll be back shortly to find out your Screason why.
