Stevie and her 4 puppies were left to die at the extremely high kill shelter in San Bernadino, CA. We stepped up to save them, and a few more that rode along with them. 3 weeks ago, the day following their arrival to Idaho, Stevie went to the vet and was diagnosed with suspected kennel cough and put on antibiotics. A week later, she began having bloody diarrhea, and more antibiotics were issued. 3 days ago, she began displaying neurological signs. Her head wobbled side to side, her back end was weak and she had what they call a "gum chewing" tic to her mouth. After an exam at the vets office, Stevie was diagnosed with Distemper. Distemper is pretty rare now, because of the vaccinations given to dogs. Stevie and her puppies were vaccinated before leaving the shelter, but it was too late. The virus had already entered her body. The kennel cough and diarrhea were all early signs of distemper. Stevie and her pups WERE quarantined (as all our dogs our when they first come in) for 2 weeks. Most diseases will show their face by then. Unfortunately, this time, it did not. All dogs were released after the 2 week quarantine period to play together. Which caused exposure for multiple dogs to distemper. All dogs are in quarantine for 3 weeks. They all had to be revaccinated again. We are doing what we can to save Stevie and her 2 puppies that have been diagnosed. We're very worried and almost positive her other 2 will also come down with it. Distemper is horrible, and almost always deadly. There have been success stories though, and we're hoping to be one of them! Please help us. The dogs from San Bernadino have ALL had vet bills, and we just got a dog through Double Pneumonia. We're a small rescue run by 2 people. We have been trying to get our 501c3, and thought we could, until all the medical bills came in. We are currently on lockdown and cannot take anymore dogs until this nightmare passes and quarantine is complete. Emotionally and financially this is draining. Please, donate. SHARE SHARE SHARE. Every single dollar counts. Give up your daily coffee and donate it to us. Distemper is rare, but it's hit us in the worst way possible.
