Mesa was nominated to the All-State Color Guard and will be marching with the All-State Band in Washington, D.C. at the end of June. She also applied for and was accepted to the Global Explorers "Leading the Way" Program and will be traveling to the Grand Canyon in July. Being in the All-State Color Guard is an amazing honor and the trip will involve not only marching on the 4th of July in Philadelphia, but several days of intensive touring of Washington, D.C. Mesa will learn a lot about American history and have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see our national treasures up close and personal! This trip is $1900, and it will cover almost everything except lunch and souvenirs. In July, it's time for the Grand Canyon. Global Explorers is an amazing organization that offers many no-barriers adventure programs for teens. These programs involve not only exploring and learning about the environment and global cultures, but building leadership skills as well. Their "Leading the Way" program for this summer focuses on the Grand Canyon and Mesa will be hiking and learning alongside blind and vision-impaired teens. There is a mandatory retreat in Denver at the end of April to prepare the teens in advance for the Grand Canyon experience in July. That is two airfares we will have to cover. Plus she will likely need hiking clothes and supplies appropriate for the climate and weather there. It is so exciting to know Mesa will benefit in so many ways from both of these trips! Won't you please help us fund them? Your donation, no matter how small, will help out immensely. $5-10 adds up quickly when lots of people donate, so we appreciate anything you might contribute. You can find out more about each of the trips on Mesa's Continuing Education facebook page and soon her website and blog will be up and running as well (watch for news on their completion on the facebook page). Mesa will also keep a log along the way of her adventures so be sure to check it out! Thank you in advance for your support, contributions, and cheerleading!
