Please help James, an Armed Forces Vet with his latest struggle! James, is a 50 year old family man who is an incomplete quadriplegic. He started out life just like you and I, grew up, served our country in the Armed Forces, and settled down to raise his family, while enlisting in another tour of duty serving in the Army Reserves. While in the Reserves he began to experience Parkinson like symptoms and began months of medical testing which located a tumor growing in his spine. It was determined that the tumor was likely caused by his telecomunications job assignment in his service with the Armed Forces. He was made to medically discharge from the reserves and told by doctors that he needed surgery immediately as there was only a 50% chance of survival. His wife at first supportive, could not handle the outcome of his condition and rehabilitaion, so it cost James his marriage. But James was a fighter, he would not let it cost him his children and pride. Unwilling to be a burdon on anyone, he re-educated himself and found work, so he could support his children, who I am proud to say he succeeded at, since they have now been living with him for the last 8 years he has remarried. That is the brief background on James. Today James has a new obstacle that he needs help with. Since he is too proud to ask for help, we, his family, are requesting his help. James was dependent on his reconditioned 1998 Ford Econoline that was re-fit to be wheelchair accessible so that he could drive to work. But it recently died and can no longer be rehabitable. Still unwilling to give up he uses his wheel chair to travel over four miles to the closest train station so he can continue to work to support his family. When it rains, he can only steer with one hand while he holds an umbrella with the other, and is not sure what he will do once winter comes, since he can not afford another modified car. The modifications he requires in a car is hand controls, a wheel chair lift, wheelchair tie downs, ramp and other various modifications, which are all very costly. The government does not supply these benefits to veterans, so James is again abandoned to fend for himself. Please help by sending what ever small donations you can to James, so he can get a new vehicle before winter sets in. We are accepting donations which can either be dropped off or mailed to his sister's comic book store at 269 Ridge Road, North Arlington, NJ 07031 or donations can be made through this PayPal account. Believe me, any small donation will be greatly appreciated!! We are also planning a family car wash during this summer and a tricky tray benefit in the near future.
