Ife Franklin is an incredible artist in our community committed to creating a living testament honoring our ancestors who lived and died producing two materials that she works with closely--plantation grown cotton and indigo--in her latest endeavor.

The Indigo Project will provide a historical, artistic, and cultural context to community members about important cultural aspects of the life of the enslaved and the artistic production of Adire textile making.

The project will involve the creation of an 8 ft wooden structure resembling a slave cabin which will be completely covered inside and out with Aso Adire (indigo textile) that will be produced by a group of volunteers that will learn the traditional techniques of Adire from the Yoruba culture of Nigeria, West Africa.

The cabin will be displayed in a public green space. The audience will experience the meaning of the creation and the symbolic, historical representation through visual media.

This is her birthday month. In celebration of her birth, please consider supporting The Indigo Project by donating as much as you can.
