🌈 An animal shelter is a place of refuge, safety and protection. For the hundreds of animals at SOS el Arca Animal Rescue, it is where they find hope and home.Opened in 2016, the current shelter (el Arca/The Ark) is purpose-built, spacious and colorful. It has 64 kennels, each with with hurricane-proof indoor and outdoor runs. There is a special quarantine area, a dedicated clinic and four large exercise areas for the dogs. Like any building, The Ark requires constant upkeep to keep it ship-shape. In just a few weeks, rainy season will hit and we have some essential maintenance jobs to do. 🌈 About The Shelter The shelter houses up to 200 dogs and cats at any time. They arrive with all kinds of conditions, from mange to fractures, burns, machete wounds, tumors, poisoning, road traffic accidents, distemper and so much more. As a no-kill rescue, SOS el Arca Animal Rescue gives ALL the animals in it's care the chance to live healthy and happy lives well into the future. “SOS el Arca began 12 years ago, but the reality now is that the number of dogs and cats we care for each year has increased many times over,” founder and president, Sylvie Goetz said. “The majority are re-homed but some have been with us for years and may never find their forever family, so they are with us for life.” September is the start of Hurricane season in Playa Del Carmen. Our home, The Ark, needs some repairs and renovations in key areas, so we need to act fast!

🌈 SOS el Arca Animal Rescue saves the lives of dogs and cats from the harsh realities of life on the streets of Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
They come to us injured, mistreated, abused and abandoned. For most, the shelter is their last hope and we dedicate ourselves tirelessly to giving them the chance of a new life.
Since 2012, more than 4,500 dogs and cats have been rescued and rehabilitated, and for the vast majority, we find loving, forever homes. Those who do not stay with us, cared for until their last breath.
