Greetings from Positive Life Kenya. We hope you are doing well
given the challenges which have been universally experienced across
the globe.
Currently, Kenyans are experiencing lots of difficulties as a
result of post-COVID-19 effects, Ukraine and Russia war, and drought.
The current drought is said to be the worst in 40 years with its
causes majorly alluding to climate change, leading to scarcity in food
since the Kenyan economy is majorly ran by agriculture. The effects of
this drought are already hard-felt and the projections not promising.
Food is a big issue.
With our programs targeting health, livelihood support and
education for children and youth, we work directly with the less
advantaged and more often than not, offer rescue spaces to a couple of
them. The current situation has brought about depression and mental
health issues which Positive life Kenya is having to deal with on a
daily basis. The most affected are the children, who seek refuge in
our schools - Tumaini and Kiotani. Currently, we have cases of little
children from the community visiting the schools in search of food
thus adding more strains to the schools’ feeding program yet, with the
current situation we cannot deny them food. This system of activities
dictates that we offer 4 meals a day, something the current state of
the economy doesn’t support.
Our children are hungry, they are angry too. This is a state
that is undermining and compromising the hope we daily preach to them
– the empowerment we seek to achieve.
