Hello! My name is Danielle, I'm a refugee advocate by day and an ultra-marathon runner by night. I am preparing to run the Headlands 100-mile race in Sausalito, California on September 8-9. This is my first attempt at 100-miles!

Recent, tragic events in Boise that resulted in injuries and even loss of life of innocent refugee children, and the local community's subsequent desire to counter any possible narrative that refugees are not welcome in Idaho, deeply inspired me.

Running is a hobby, albeit a somewhat masochistic one, that is afforded to me because I had the sheer dumb luck to be born in a country not ravaged by war. This same luck is not afforded to our brothers and sisters living in war-torn parts of the world.

I therefore dedicate both my race, and the miles preceding it, to the families in Boise, by raising $1,000 to support the Agency for New Americans (ANA), an organization that provides long-term support for people brave enough to start over within our borders. I do this to promote the spirit of welcome, and, frankly, to show gratitude for the simple fact that I live in a country where I can run.

Join me. Every penny helps. #RefugeesWelcome
