Patricia Beers hasn't added a story.
On September 17, 2011, I woke up early to watch the live stream of Occupy Wall Street in New York City. I had no idea how much that day would change my life forever. A woman stood up and spoke about how mainstream media won't tell the truth about what's really going on in the world and that WE have to BE the media. At that time I wasn't aware of any low tech ways of live streaming, still, I picked up my FlipCam and began filming and uploading footage every day from the Occupy Los Angeles camp. Thier media team was full of Hollywood professionals with fancy, expensive equipment, yet I was producing on a daily basis much more content than they were. I would watch streamers in Oakland and San Francisco like Bella Eiko, PunkBoy, and Oak FoSho and quickly learned that I could stream with a cell phone and a backup Battery. As soon as I could I bought my first smartphone.
I began live streaming in January of 2012. I streamed the first protest I ever went to on January 12, 2012. When I streamed my second protest on January 19, 2012, at UC Riverside 25,000 people were watching and that's when I knew how important it is was to get out news that the TVs won't show you.
When Occupy ended I just kept streaming and I haven't stopped for more than a month at a time.
For the past two years, I've streamed nearly every LAPD Police Commission Meeting.
I was arrested twice for live streaming and I captured my first and my second arrest live on video.
I've covered a lot of big protests over the years including Anaheim after the police murder of Manuel Diaz, the Trayvon Martin Marches in South LA from Lemeirt Park, the marches for Ezell Ford who was killed two days after Mike Brown was killed, the big Black Lives Matter march in Inglewood after the murder of Philando Castile, three different marches the week of Thanksgiving when the Darren Wilson no indictment announcement was made, The protest after "he who shall not be named" was elected,
If you follow my Facebook page Facebook.com/PMbeers and click "See first," you won't miss any of my live streams. I'm only streaming on Facebook for now but soon I'm hoping to be streaming on Periscope, YouTube, Ustream and Facebook simultaneously.
Follow me on Twitter @PMbeers.
I've been live streaming consistently for almost six years and with your continued support, I can keep going! <3 <3 <3
