The Samadhilegacy Foundation hasn't added a story.
What is wrong with people?
How can dozens and dozens of people, drive by a severely injured dog, without stopping?
This little guy, had been sitting in the middle of the road for at least 30 minutes; before our volunteer saw him. She was out of her car in a second and rushed to him.
Cars behind her honked for her to move. She ignored them. A group of men leaned against a wall watching the cars pass the dog. Our volunteer screamed at these men to help her.
She had her own dog in the car and the back was full of merchandise.
She had to figure out how to get the dog in the car and hoped the two dogs would be friendly with each other.
A man reluctantly came forward. As he bent over the dog, the dog growled and the man ran away.
Our volunteer spoke softly to the dog and he let her pick him up.
She saw one of the men actually looked upset and she called him over.
She instructed him to get her dog out of the car and she gently placed the injured dog on on the passenger seat, on the pillow that her dog had been on.
She took her dog from the man and for the first time she heard any type of sympathy for the injured pup; the man squeezed our volunteer's shoulder and said, 'Thank you for helping him.’
It was all too much for our animal loving volunteer, who promptly burst into tears. Once back in the car, she contacted us, The Samadhi Legacy Foundation.
It was getting dark and it was not a nice area; so she drove the dog to an emergency vet close to her home.
Once there, she was surprised to find that the dog was chipped. He was very dirty, so she assumed he was a stray. That chip caused havoc, for this sweet dog; as Chester, (that was his name on the chip), was now considered to have an owner and for 14 days he sat in the emergency hospital, waiting to be claimed.
We, The Samadhi Legacy Foundation, called the emergency vets twice a day. Each time, we were told he was still there; but they would not let us have any other information.
On day fourteen, the vets said that we could take him and we did; right away.
They had kept the leg clean and controlled the pain; but that was all.
For fourteen days, Chester was stuck at this vets with a broken leg.
Our volunteer rushed Chester to another vets.
That happened this morning. He did have an injured hip but that seems to have healed itself over the last 14 days.
There is a bad break on the ankle.
We think it can be fixed; but bacteria has developed because of the time gone by. The vet has said he would need a CT done on the leg, as he needs to see different angles of the break.
He feels it can be fixed; but there is a chance he is not seeing something and it may need to be amputated.
The CT is $1250.00. If the operation can go ahead to save the leg, the surgery would be between, $3026 and $4630. These are rescue rates.
It's a bit overwhelming; but Chester is only about three years old. If we go the easy way and amputate; he will live ten-plus years, on three legs.
We feel in every bone of our bodies, he should be given a chance to keep his leg.
Let us tell you about Chester: You can see he is super cute; a bit like a little stocky teddy bear.
He is as sweet as can be.
When the volunteer took him out of the first emergency vets, one doctor and two vet techs came out with him; there were tears, kisses and proclamations of love. They had fallen for the sweet little boy, who loves kisses, belly rubs and being petted.
Our volunteer has said that it's impossible not to love him and has visited him twice today; to keep his spirits up.
We are frankly scared and overwhelmed at the sheer cost this could be and, of course, we are reaching out to you for your help; so we can help Chester. Remember, every single dollar helps, Maybe you’re going to give us the money you were going to spend in Starbucks today?
There is NO donation too small.
We are now totally committed to Chester. We are committed to get him fixed in whatever way his little body needs.
We are committed to the fight.
We are committed to get the much needed, overdue surgery.
And we are committed to get him to his rescue, The Samadhi Legacy Foundation, where Kathy Benson, the founder, has already said so many times over the last two weeks, "I love him."
Because its easy to love Chester; even if you have not physically met him.
This Fundraiser is urgent: We are truly sticking our necks out with the cost of this one. Vetting, in California, is way more expensive than in Las Vegas; where our own vets are.
But that is where Chester is and so we ask, very humbly: If you believe we are right to do whatever it takes for this little boy; please, please donate to his urgent fundraiser.
If you wish to pay by PayPal our PayPal address is kathy@samadhilegacy.org
please send to “friends and family,“ and in memo put ‘Chester.’
